Henry Cavill wants Man of Steel to finally get a sequel. Zack Snyder helped start the DC Extended Universe back in 2013 when he directed Man of Steel. Cavill starred in the film as Superman, who returned for the follow-up films Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.
While Cavill is most known for playing Superman, he’s stayed busy since Justice League. While Justice League was undergoing reshoots, Cavill was filming Mission: Impossible- Fallout alongside Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, and Vanessa Kirby. This role also led to one of the smaller problems in Justice League: the infamous mustache debacle. Justice League was panned by critics for more reasons than just the poorly erased mustache, but the film was also the last time fans saw Cavill play Superman. There have been rumors of a Man of Steel 2 ever since the first film came out, but nothing has ever come to fruition. Fans have been asking for a sequel, and Cavill wants one too.

In a recent interview for his upcoming Netflix show The Witcher, Kevin McCarthy asked him to talk about the Snyder Cut. Cavill basically said he would be interested to see it, but is more focused on the future films featuring his Superman character. Cavill’s full comment can be read below:
“I have not seen any Snyder Cut. I don’t know if there’s anything with that exists that is a Snyder Cut. I’m sure there’s footage out there which has probably been pieced together over the years. I’m always interested to see how that stuff turns out, but that is very much a chapter of my past. I would rather talk about what is going to happen in the future. The future of Superman, how I can express that character from the comic books, which ties in nicely to Man of Steel. Man of Steel I really like that movie and I’d like to be able to tell the story, where it was left at that point.”
While fans have been asking for Man of Steel 2 for a while, they have also been wanting to see the Snyder Cut of Justice League. The film suffered after becoming a Frankenstein of ideas since Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon had two different ideas for the superhero movie. Fans have been very vocal about seeing Snyder’s original vision, as have the cast of the film. Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher, and Jason Momoa have all shown their support of the Snyder Cut. Cavill, however, has remained mostly quiet about his Snyder Cut opinion. Many have speculated that he hadn’t commented because of his hopes to make Man of Steel 2, which seems to be supported by this interview.
Despite the DCEU struggling to get off the ground initially, the DC characters still have a huge fan base that would certainly go to the theaters to see Man of Steel 2. So far, the DC superheroes have shared the spotlight in different movies, but nobody has gotten a dedicated sequel just yet. Wonder Woman will be the first superhero to get a sequel, and Momoa will return for Aquaman 2 in 2022. It’s still possible that Cavill could return for a Man of Steel sequel, but with Batman being recast with Robert Pattinson, it’s still unclear what the future of the DCEU will hold.
